Strategy Discourse….

Definition (OU):

A system of statements that encourages certain ways of talking and rules out others. To say that a strategy discourse exists is to say that within an organisation there are certain ways of talking and writing about strategy that are acceptable, and others that are not acceptable. Viewing strategy as a discourse opens up the possibility of seeing strategy as a contested area within an organisation, where certain views are approved of, while others are marginalised.

Must ensure that I scan the micro-environment Discourse from here on in – in order that I will have evidence for the TMA.

Chats at the water cooler? Formal emails? Informal, unplanned discussions?

Must be able to analyse this and make a judgement.

Part 1:
– Identify what the discourse is…who? What? How? When? Where?
– what does this suggest? Are there differences between groups?
– does any of the evidence relate to the course frameworks?
– what does it tell you about the type of organisation? what are your judgements based in all this and what do you conclude!?

Part 2:
– is about critically assessing the managerial implications
– a reasoned (evidenced), balanced, coherent argument. Integrate unit theories.
– reflective
– relate management impact on the strategic discourse?
